What do I Need to Know?

What is it?

  • Funding Provided by Government of Canada

  • Distributed by Provincial Governments

  • Intended for Part-Time Students

  • Does not need to be paid back

Who is Eligible?

    • Enrolled in a Qualified Program

    • Attending approved a School

    • Total financial resources less than total estimated cost of education

    • Expected income is within maximum family income threshold

    • Eg. <$66,942 as an independent student

How much can I receive?

The maximum amount you can receive is $2520 per year, however the exact amount will depend on your family income:

Common Situations Students Miss Out:

How do I apply?

  • Applications are completed through Alberta Student Aid

  • You must complete the manual application form

  • It is not required that you take student loans

    • Cost of living is being covered by parents

    • Tuition is being paid by parents (excluding RESP funds)

    • Savings in excess of total tuition and educational costs

    • Income being earned brings individual above maximum threshold

    • The application is done through Alberta Student Aid

    • If you are not applying for Student Loans you may not realize you can apply for grants

How does receiving my funding work?

Once you submit your application it will go to one of three states:

  • Automatically Approved

  • Under Review

  • Denied

After your application is approved:

  • You must complete the Master Student Financial Aid Agreement (MSFAA)

  • You must create an account with National Student Loan Service Center (NSLSC)

  • Funds are sent to the University first to pay any outstanding amounts (tuition, fees, parking tickets, etc.)

  • Remaining amount is sent directly to your account
